Feature Article - Police Assistance

Back

Occasionally people ask me to offer my services to assist the police with tracing the whereabouts of missing people. It is a reasonable request, and there are several reasons why I don’t do this.

Firstly, in a case many years ago where I helped to trace a woman who had disappeared, she didn’t want to be found, as she was escaping brutal treatment from her husband. It turned out that he didn’t want his wife back, and sought her location in order to retrieve her car and to sell it as a punishment for leaving him.

In the rare times I have been asked by distraught family members to help them trace a loved one, it has been distressing and exhausting work. Being able to glimpse the inside of a room where someone is being held captive is a burden for all concerned, especially when the family needs a location or even a street address before the police will become involved. Seeing the situation clairvoyantly is no guarantee that you’ll know the location of the scene you are glimpsing.

Tracing the whereabouts of people or of objects is a specialisation which I don’t pursue. The emotions of those seeking clairvoyance profoundly influence the reader’s judgement. Their strong desire for favourable and precise information can un-centre the reader, leading to inaccuracy and disappointment. With what is at stake for those seeking news of a loved one, the burden of accuracy is onerous.

Also, contrary to popular belief, the police usually don’t seek and don’t want the assistance of psychics. They prefer instead to use their tried and trusted methods. This is entirely reasonable, especially when you consider the costs of an investigation. The offer of psychic assistance concerning a missing person can be perceived as a diversion.

A colleague of mine in the UK gave up reading altogether after being approached by the distraught parents of a murdered child to help them to find the body. The child’s murderer was serving life in prison for a second murder and he had secretly buried the bodies which were undiscovered. My colleague’s dilemma was that although he had a reasonable idea where the child’s body was buried, he had been told by the spirit of the deceased child that it was the parent’s karma to remain unaware of the body’s whereabouts this lifetime.

Faced with two aggrieved parents who were destined to suffer intolerably for the rest of their lives, he quit his work as a reader and has not regretted the decision. In a single reading the clairvoyant was sharing their burden, and suffered sleepless nights for a long time afterwards. He found himself torn between his desire to help the couple who sought his assistance and the need to avoid taking on their karma through his actions. It took a great deal of self discipline to remain aware of the bigger picture. He was certain that he never wanted to repeat the experience.

I admire clairvoyants who specialise in tracing missing people, for they sail in emotionally treacherous waters. From a serial killer’s perspective, if he set out to kill several people and was threatened with discovery by a clairvoyant, he might consider adding the clairvoyant to his list of victims. As many clairvoyant’s are unable to read for themselves, they are unlikely to predict their own demise at the hands of such a villain.
