To the untrained eye, many
hands appear identical. Each hand contains four fingers and a
thumb, fingernails at the tips of each and a palm at the base
of the fingers. Upon closer scrutiny however, subtle
differences are discernable.
Long smooth fingers as used
in jewellers' advertising contrast starkly with the shorter,
knotty fingers often found in hardware catalogues. Then there
are the age old 'truisms' which experienced palmists know to
be false. "Cold hands, warm heart," is one saying. In reality
continually cold hands are often the result of poor blood
circulation. Those with chronic poor blood circulation are
usually less warm hearted than people with good circulation.
Think about it for a moment. If you are standing at a bus
shelter on a cold, windy night, shivering, how warm hearted do
you feel? It's likely that you are conserving as much energy
as possible to keep warm and to stay
alive. |
Another truism is the
belief that people with long fingers make excellent pianists.
Although long fingered people may appreciate the sounds of a piano,
the often lack the dedication to practice on a daily basis. There
are exceptions to this rule, naturally.
Another common belief is that those with
small hands are better suited to delicate, intricate work. Instead,
if you sought a jeweller to set a number of tiny stones into a ring,
you are usually better off selecting the jeweller with the largest
hands. Big hands are better suited to detail whereas smaller hands
are better suited to 'big picture' projects.
<< The Clubbed
Thumb This was traditionally called the 'murderer's
thumb,' as those who possess it have a powerful temper. This thumb
has a short first phalange (section) and is broad. The tip of the
thumb is fleshy and the thumbnail is short and broad.
Those with this type of thumb usually display a strong will
and a well developed control over emotions. As a result, when
continually frustrated or bullied, they build resentment for months
or years before exploding. When out of temper those with clubbed
thumbs can clear a room in seconds, as others scurry for safety. In
almost every case of clubbed thumbs I have seen the person has not
lost his or her temper more than five or six times in 30 years. In
most cases this person knows on a deep level what he or she is
capable of doing when out of temper, and is sensible enough to leave
the circumstances which triggered the outburst of temper before
doing something which will cause regret. If a crime such as murder
is committed, it is likely to be an unplanned affair after the
person has 'snapped,' temporarily losing control over his or her
emotions.
<< The crooked
little finger. The fourth or little finger represent the
finer of communication in palmistry terms. When this finger is
crooked, (see picture) then it is likely to signify crooked
communication. This is not the best person to purchase a used car
from, as he or she will probably find it easy to tailor the
vehicle’s history to each potential customer.
A gently sloping finger
(sloping toward the third finger) suggests a private person, not
easily given to revealing his or herself to others.
Knotty fingers
>> Prominent knuckles or knotty fingers reveal a love
of detail. This is the person who sometimes overlooks the obvious in
appreciation of the detail. They are usually patient with sifting
through the finer points, thus needing a day or two to reflect when
making important decisions.
When shopping for clothes, a car or
almost anything expensive, people with knotty fingers like to
research their intended purchase, so as to avoid making a mistake.
When they buy spontaneously they often end up with something which
won't fit, is the wrong colour or is completely
unsuitable.
<< Flexible thumbs. Thumbs are either stiff
or flexible at the joint closest to the nail. People with flexible
thumbs are usually spontaneous, adaptable, generous and they avoid
arguments wherever possible. When pushed in argument, they'll
sometimes tell you what they think you want to hear, to keep the
peace. Later they'll do exactly what they planned to do
anyway.
Flexible thumbed people bend the rules
without hesitation and Carlos was a typical example. When Carlos
commences a new job his first task is to collect some letterhead
paper, in order to write himself a positive reference upon
departure. Naturally his resume contains only glowing tributes to a
man everyone claims to miss terribly. Flexible thumbs can be found
mainly in the hands of Latin and Celtic people. They are rarely
found in the hands of Asian people.
Flexible thumbed people can fall in love
in a flash, as they are emotionally spontenaneous. This occurred
when I visited Ireland in 1988. I couldn't find a sandwich shop
anywhere, so I poked my head into a dry cleaner's to ask directions.
The young girl behind the counter had a smile which made up for the
miserable day, and I was in love. I returned five minutes later with
a bunch of flowers. She blushed nervously as she accepted them.
Later my stiff-thumbed travelling companion Gareth choked on his
sandwich when I told him. "What? You went out for lunch and you fell
in love with the girl in the dry cleaner's? You weren't gone long
enough to post a letter, let alone fall in love." He shook his head
as he sped into traffic an onto the next town, leaving my emotional
possibilities behind.
Stiff
thumbs >> People with stiff thumbs usually reveal
themselves to others slowly. They build friendships steadily and
appreciate loyal, steadfast friends. Those with stiff thumbs can
become stubborn when pushed, and are not afraid to argue their point
of view when it is necessary.
Stiff thumbs are readily found in the
Northern European people, including the German, Scandinavian,
Northern Italian, Russian and English people. Stiff thumbs are also
characteristic of Asian people, although a small number of Thai,
Japanese and Chinese people possess flexible thumbs. I've not
studied the origins of the different Asian groups in a bid to
determine where those with flexible thumbs originated.
Stiff thumbed people tend to dominate
those with flexible thumbs, and when stiff and flexible thumbed
parents have children, in most cases their offspring will have stiff
thumbs.
The study of palmistry is in
effect, a study of life. Our hands reveal a great deal about
out tastes, talents, temperament, sense of humour and likely health
issues. Major life events from the past and the future are also
revealed, if you know where to look when examining both sides of
both hands. When sceptics argue that palmists are soothsayers,
telling clients what they want to hear, I point out that an
experienced palmist can confirm past major events from examining the
hands. Our hands are maps of our lives, as I prove regularly on
TV when I give live readings using only photographs of hands,
with the client on the phone to confirm or discount my
findings. This is the real test of plamistry, when I read for
a client without ever meeting that person. Reading from
photographs are limited and have a reduced accuracy compared with
face to face readings, but they can offer a suprising number of
details about the client's life.
